Theme 6: Lush

I'm extremely late for this, and I apologize. Exams have been killing me these past two weeks, and so this unfortunately slipped my mind. I've found some new sources of inspiration though, and I think it'll improve my artwork, both conceptually and technically.

Anyways, when I hear the word 'lush,' I think springtime. Sort of a cliche, but for me, it's just this whirlwind of green and emeralds and new life and nature.

I thought I'd try and put a face to all of this and so this is what turned out. I bought a set of Prismacolor pastels that are more chalk than formal oil pastels, but their malleability when smudged is just gorgeous. I drew this when it was 75 degrees out and sunny; started from one eye, finished the face, and by the time I did the hair, it was dark, which explains the contrast in texture and finish between the face and hair.

I'm thinking of exploring more wet media for next time, but we'll see.
